Site Freezing and Odd Behavior

Post by escorpius »

For the second time in three days, our site has frozen, both times during a tournament. In the most recent instance, the server started responding again, but only for some people. For those for whom it was responding, many couldn't see their cards, even after refreshing the table. The connection list also showed large numbers of duplicate logins for the players (see attachment).

The Mavens error log shows nothing at the time of the glitch. Please advise.

Which version are you running? Does the Event Log show a bunch of disconnects at the time (like the server's internet went out)?

Gold v7.04 64-bit
No. And, the server's logs show no such issue.

Keep a close eye on the "Mem" field of the status bar in the admin console showing the memory used by the program. There appears to be a memory leak that I'm still tracking down. I'm seeing it on my demo site but may or may not having anything to do with your issue. Stopping and restarting the service is currently the only fix.

Will keep an eye on it. And, confirming that Stop & Restart of the service fixed the issue when we saw it.

Two quick questions:
  • Is the "Mem" field something we can query with the API or check the status of in some other programmatic way? Would be useful to get an early warning.
  • Have you confirmed that stopping/restarting the service is required as opposed to stopping/restarting just the poker server?

Yes, SystemStats returns a "Memory" field beginning in ver 7.04.

In regards to memory usage, it requires restarting the whole service. Just going offline in the admin console only prevents client logins but the program is still running.

Sounds good. Just a heads-up that the API Documentation doesn't list the new "Memory" field.

Thanks, updated now. That section was missing several fields. You might have to click your browser refresh button to force a new page load.

An update that we are running v7.07 and still seeing the same issue. Each time we see the site freeze, the memory is over 40K. The issue is causing some serious heartburn for our players. Considering the age old "bounce it every day" approach, which is obviously less than ideal. Any update on mitigation or identifying the issue? Anything we can do to help drive resolution?

What is the player load when this happens? Do you notice the system getting laggy right before it freezing up? Have you tested the bandwidth of the server by running a speedtest.net test?
