I am interested in the question, is it possible to run the PM server on an emulator etc: wine in Linux? Windows hosting is much more expensive than Linux vps.

It might be possible but I offer no support for that.

For what its worth, I have my PM server running on Ubuntu using WINE. Works great.

What kind of traffic are you getting, if you don't mind me asking?

Last Thursday night we had a 3 hour ring game with 7 players. Assuming the monitoring is correct, logs show during the three hour period:

Inbound to server: 6.3MB of data
Outbound from server: 11.3MB of data

Running on my cloud's "Always Free" service tier where a recent speedtest showed:

Download speed (inbound to server): 48 megabit/sec
Upload speed (outbound from server) 4 megabit/sec

From the player perspective, we noticed zero lag and no issues.

Hope this helps

So as a giggle I tried installing the demo on Wine.

Downloaded the demo and I get "Corrupt Server Module Detected. Contact Briggs Softworks."

The "server" loads up fine until I try to start it which gives me that error.
Any thoughts @Kent?

I should note that this was an unpriviledged LXC container. I might try unpriv and a full blown VM at some point too to see if it fixes things.

You will need to run Windows Update and get all the latest security updates that will include the certs needed for digital signature verification (or whatever the equivalent of that is in Linux).

hxe,

I did not install this into a container. Running on a full install of Ubuntu with the latest/greatest version of WINE and did not run into your issue.
