WSServerConnect error: Out of memory

Report bugs found in Poker Mavens

WSServerConnect error: Out of memory

Postby mantux5 » Sat Jun 27, 2015 9:31 am

Poker Mavens crashed again today. This time at least something is in the Error Log:

WSServerConnect error: Out of memory

However, I still have the Performance Monitor running and it says, it was using around 310 MB of RAM, so how is this possible to be out of Memory when server has nothing else running on it and it has 32GB RAM?

Later poker crashed again, this time without any messages in the error log and it was using up even less resources than before.

Also, I noticed that Thread count is bumping again before crashing. However, I can't understand why, as I have entered all the limitations I was told about.

Too many threads will use up other system resources that aren't part of the program's general RAM allocation. What was the actual thread count and what values do you have set for Max FP and Max PP connection? Were there any other error messages in the error log besides the out-of-memory error?

Almost 1400 threads when crashed the first time.
And a little bit more than 1200 threads when it crashed the second time.

MAX FP Connections 750
MAX FP Connections per IP 7
MAX PP Connections 350
MAX PP Connections per IP 10

And there were no other error messages. Only this message twice at the exactly same time. Only these two lines in the error log of that day (This is for the first crash). The second crash has nothing logged in the Error Log, there is only one Invalid Reconnect Attempt message, but it is some time before the crash.

How many connections were active at the time? Try lowering those Max FP/PP values in your settings. The Pro version, being a 32-bit app, cannot handle that many threads. Also keep your online tables down to the minimum necessary because each empty table is using a thread. Same for tournaments, don't allocate more tables that you are likely to need in each tournament because all the empty tables use a thread once the tournament starts. Also, if you're still making lots of API calls to AccountsGet, change your code to AccountsList and make fewer calls.

And if I upgraded to Gold license and installed 64-bit server, would it be capable of handling this amount of threads or even more?

There were less than 150 online users, not sure about the connections, because I just got a call from website administrator saying that poker is down again, so no one from staff knows what situation was just before the crash.

As for the tables, I need many different tables, because we have different users connecting during different times and playing on different tables. I'm not talking about different Buy-ins only, but different seats, even different game types. And this cannot be predicted how much of each type tables are needed, because we have pretty volatile user base. Most of the tournaments are having only 1 table, however we have a free roll and I think I can reduce tables there, because it was set to the max.

Regarding the API calls, I haven't managed to change it just yet. But I will try to change it this weekend.

Yes, based on results I've seen from other 64-bit installs.

It's just the difference in price ($400 USD). Email me with your license key and a "upgrade pro to gold" note for instructions.
