VPS setup

Post by adoni »

any idea as to how many users a VPS can handle?

it seems they sell vps hosting with minor memory

say for instance how many estimated users on 1G mem vs 2G or 4G

I think we usually put 8G on linus machines and never have any problems with perl and cgi scripts we use

so I'm not sure if 1G is enough to run the script

If 1G may run X people and 4G Y and 8G Z

Thanks

A 1 GB Ram system likely won't handle very many players. Windows itself will take half of that. And if you're running a web server also that uses up memory, etc. The max load depends on ram, cpu speed, internet speed. And a VPS is sharing hardware with other accounts and you don't know what those are doing at any given time.

so 2g is the recommended MIN for a vps?

as long as it's not too busy of a site

do you know how many users and tables that could handle (2g)

we'll probably end up on a real dedicated win server eventually

but since this is the only script we ever considered that needs a win server, we only need a win server if we will keep using it

if it was a regular linus type script I would have bought the pro already

but to me, a linux guy, considering a win based application is against my 20 years of net operations, so that's why I'm leary as to a win server/script

linux, we buy and use all the time, we have a bunch of linux servers now

so that's a minor issue for me

it's running good enough now on a local laptop to see it works

that fact SWC uses it is a big reason we're considering it

then how well you have handled my dumb quesitons as a win server newb is proof it's worth a spin with at least pro

anyway, I appreciate your replies and should be buying the pro at least soon

mega thanks again brother, you sure do support the script well even in a trial run

Hard to say until you actually load it up with players. Maybe a few dozen but that's just a wild guess.
