server needs

Post by lordalmighty »

what are the server needs of this software do i have to use a vps server and does it have to be windows?

its just that i need to cut running costs of my website to a minimum and vps servers are very expensive to the point i am actually going up in costs not down ;( if i want a desent amount of ram and bandwidth to run this software. i currently rent poker software for my website but like i said its costing to much for my website long term and i need to lower it lol...

so i found this poker software which is fun to play and reasonably priced (nice work btw ;) ). only thing is its not got omaha hi low or any other form of poker but texas hold em variants.

and from what i gather no fake players abilities as yet, unless i rely on a scammers bots at huge prices for little to no garentees its gonna work....

so again, do i have to use a windows vps? can i not use say a blue hosts or some other servers that are not vps please?

Any computer running Windows 2000 or later that you have admin rights to. Doesn't need to be a VPS or dedicated server although if you run it from a PC from home, you won't likely have enough upstream bandwidth to support many connections. More info is in the FAQ at http://www.briggsoft.com/pmfaq.htm and at bottom of the main web page at http://www.briggsoft.com/pmavens.htm

No, these cheap shared/managed host plans have dozens if not hundreds of accounts on a single system. They will not let you install your own software on these accounts because if your program crashed the server then it would take those other accounts offline too. If you're going to use a hosting service, then you do have to at least get a VPS account so that you have your own copy of Windows running all to yourself, where you can install your own software and reboot the system as needed. When I answered earlier about not needing a VPS, that was only in the context of using your own local PC instead.

The FAQ link in my previous message showed the one I use for the official demo site. I pay $29/month for it. It's not particularly fast, though. I've measured the bandwidth using http://www.speedtest.net and never got more than 20 or 30 Mbps in either direction.
