Need to know server requirements.

Post by vinodm »

Will be buying a new license shortly for a bitcoin poker portal. Need to know what server specifications to go with inorder to support maximum number of players. Only Poker mavens (32bit) will be run. In the morning a resource intensive backup script runs, but that's about it.

Internet bandwidth and uplink speed : sorted out

Server CPU speed : ???

Server RAM : ???

OS type : 32bit or 64bit ??

OS : windows server 2003 / 2008 / 2012?

The faster, the better. The sites that are able to get 500 players on are usually running dedicated servers with multi-core processors and gigabit internet connections. The 32-bit editions of Poker Mavens can't use more than 2 or 3 GB or ram. Either 2008 or 2012 is good for the Windows version. Get the 64-bit edition.

How many cores?

How much RAM?

How much CPU power?

I mentioned ram. The 64-bit Gold version can use as much ram as you have. Connection threads are memory hogs. More cores are better than fewer as Poker Mavens is highly threaded. Any number I gave would just be a wild guess. The only way to know what any particular system can handle is to load it up with players and see if there is any lag.
