What languages did you use? (poker client)

Postby djayace » Tue Jul 03, 2012 2:16 am

How was this site's poker software/client created? I know there's all different sorts of software such as C/C++/C#, Java, Python, PHP, etc...etc...etc... Out of curiosity what was used to create the poker client. Also was it a more object oriented language or what? I'm getting into College soon and I want to get into, maybe not Computer Science... But possibly Software Engineering, also what college major deals more with learning and creating software's such as the briggsoft poker client. This might be a pretty bold question to ask, hope I'm not scaring anyone away! I am just so expired to get into this career path, I appreciate any advice you might have. Thank you so much in advance!!!

The server was written in Delphi and the Flash client was written in OpenLaszlo, which is similar to Adobe Flex. The code in OpenLaszlo is a mixture of XML and a version of javascript that Adobe calls Actionscript.

what college major deals more with learning and creating software's such as the briggsoft poker client.

Flash is a fading technology. HTML5 and javascript is the future. I'm sure that's taught in any computer science program.

awesome, thanks for the great replies. I really looked in depth about pursuing a computer science degree but... I am not the best math student and also I don't want to be solving math/code problems as a career. Not sure if this is entirely true but that alone scares me away from computer science! My life career goal would be to be able to create all kinds of softwares, would this deal more with the degree in software engineering?

Most programming is just simple algebra. My degree is in mechanical engineering, I learned programming mostly on my own and that was before the internet even existed. :P

I have more than 15 years in software development, it is a very beautiful career, be able to create solutions for different problems, also to generate profits in some cases do not need an extensive mathematical knowledge, knowledge as you need logical, algorithms, boolean logic, and creativity. I believe that thanks to the software The world has advanced, thanks to the science of computation, it is inevitable to be part of this change, and just as the Bible says, God created us in His image and likeness, the power to create software for both the good or evil, have no fear of being part of the wonderful world of software engineering.

Awesome, yeah I cannot imagine myself doing anything else. Our world practically revolves around technology that was all created through the programming of different languages. I am looking for a real challenge, and I am just about 100% sure there is no better career to go down than this one. And the demand for good programmers will only be going up and up until the day I die. The only thing I'm truly scared about is if I have it in me to be a true good problem solver, but... The only way to find out is to learn a language like Java and find out... I mean... I am a good logical problem solver but when it comes to implying that to advanced math , that is what FREAKS ME OUT! But why quit so soon? Even though I'm honestly scared to death of how hard it might be to get a CS/SE degree, I will try and try and try until either I make it or I don't, but do I give up now? Umm... no I'm just getting started ;)
