Straddling is not treated as the new minimum bring-in

Post by Grim »

Minor detail but, according to RRoP Section 14, No-limit, 2nd item;
All bets must be at least equal to the minimum bring-in, unless the player is going all-in. (A straddle bet sets a new minimum bring-in, and is not treated as a raise.) The minimum bet remains the same amount on all betting rounds.
This means that the straddle amount should be the new minimum bet. E.g. blinds are 5/5, straddle is 10. Since 10 is not a raise but minimum bring-in, the min-raise should be 10, not 5 and minimum bet on following streets should be 10.

Like the "Dead Button" vs the "Forward Moving Button" rule, there are different house rules employed by different casinos. I don't much care for straddling to begin with (it's not a good strategy) but I think treating the straddle as the new big blind (rather than as a raise with option) gives the straddler too much disruptive power, especially post-flop where it changes the min bet size.
